On March 22nd, 2007, a prehistoric beast now classified as “Cloverfield” by the United States Government, reawakened after centuries of sleep deep within the Atlantic ocean. It came ashore at Manhatten Island, and proceeded to cause massive collateral damage and loss of life, decapitating the Statue of Liberty and destroying the Brooklyn Bridge. It was eventually defeated by the United States Military after an extensive battle, where the monster repeatedly survived various bombs and modern weaponry.

In the days following the attack, the U.S.A. Government has been working full-time to cover up the incident, forcing all witnesses and military personnel alike to swear secrecy, and the two destroyed landmarks were quickly repaired. New York City was secretly restored back to it’s former glory after many months of secrecy, and a great deal of the world remained unaware of the “Cloverfield” incident.

But it is only now, in January of 2008, that we, the government, have decided to come out and expose the disaster, in response to friends and families of the people who lost their lives in the attack heavily questioning and doubting our excuses. With collaberation from producer J.J. Abrams, director Matt Reeves and a devoted cast, we have constructed a perfectly-accurate and spot-on realistic “cinematic version” of one of the many tapes and various recordings of the attack made by the victims.

We have chosen not to actually release the genuine recording to the public, to spare the victims’ loved ones the traumatic viewing experience, but we have recreated a very detailed and accurate ‘remake’ of the tape. It is now available in theaters, and this website is part of a merchandising campaign to promote the film and reveal some of the details we have uncovered so far regarding this horrific tragedy.

I've moved this over from the main page so that the community can discuss it here. I'm concerned that the tone being set on the front page will deter from creating out-of-universe articles on the wiki (for topics like the filmmakers, advertising, etc.), which I'm not sure is a good thing for the growth of this resource. It also opens up the door to allowing some hybrid of encyclopedic content, fan fiction and misinformation (for starters, the opening line is inaccurate as seen in the film). This wiki is pretty new, so I wanted to be sure that the direction this project goes in is a conscious decision made by whoever's involved here. Does anyone have thoughts on this? I'm interested in discussing it further so we can figure out how to best serve where this wiki wants to be in a week, and then a month, and continuing on. —Scott (talk) 04:49, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

Monster is from the deep blue sea? Hmmmmm

If the monster is from the deep ocean, why at the end of the movie, when there was video of two of the main characters at Coney Island on the Ferris Wheel, you get a shot of the ocean, and you see something very large drop into the ocean? Did it wake up, shoot straight for the surface and soar into the air, then drop back to earth? Hmmmm.

no, that was a satellite, that dropped out of orbit and thats what woke the monster.
that is supposed to be the Tagruato satellite falling out of orbit into the ocean...
  • i do agree. I suspected it from the fist time i saw the poster. There is a hump in the water, like when a aquatic animal swims

Thanks for the heads up, I'll be sure to do that. Lily Ford (talk) 08:44, July 29, 2014 (UTC)
